Montessori Philosophy

Jigsaw and the Montessori Method

The Montessori philosophy was developed the Italian physician and educator Dr. Maria Montessori.

The Montessori method of education respects the individuality of each child and does not compare children against each other. The aim is to help children to learn and progress in their own way and at their own pace. Children are also encouraged to make their own choices and to work towards independence.

According to Dr. Montessori, during the period from birth to 6 years, a child's mind is 'absorbent', meaning that they are able to quickly develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them without conscious effort. The aim of Montessori education is to introduce activities and materials that will encourage intellectual growth and a desire to learn during this crucial formative stage.

In accordance with Montessori philosophy, we aim to provide a stimulating child-orientated environment, where children are able to explore, touch and learn without fear.
